Bad Day

This song is currently one of the hottest songs in my iPod. The song is emotionally uplifting and I listen to it whenever I'm pumped or in a bad mood.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Song: Bad Day
Singer: Daniel Powter

**Lyrics**

Where is the moment when we need it the most
You kick up the leaves and the magic is lost
They tell me your blue sky's faded to grey
They tell me your passion's gone away
And I don't need no carrying on

Stand in the line just ahead of the law
You're faking a smile with the coffee you go
You tell me your life's been way off line
You're falling to pieces every time
And I don't need no carrying on

**Chorus**

Cause you had a bad day
You're taking one down
You sing a sad song just to turn it around
You say you don't know
You tell me don't lie
You work at a smile and you go for a ride
You had a bad day
The camera don't lie
You're coming back down and you really don't mind
You had a bad day
You had a bad day

Well you need a blue sky holiday
The point is they laugh at what you say
And I don't need no carrying on

**Repeat Chorus**

Sometimes the system goes on the blink and the whole thing it turns out Wrong
You might not make it back and you know that you could be well oh that Strong
Well I'm not wrong

**Repeat Chorus**

The Bystander Effect

Imagine that you were living in Queens, NY back in the 60s in an apartment that faced a street. While you were starring from a window, you saw a woman being assaulted by a man and he was stabbing her in the gut. You rushed to pick up the phone to call for help but your roommate told you not to bother because they are probably hundreds of people calling right now. Then, you decided to listen to your roommate and not to call for help while you listened to the women screaming.

There is no need for imagination, because this story is true. The woman was Catherine Genovese, a 28-year-old daughter of Italian-American parents that she was known by the name "Kitty". More than 38 people who were living in the apartments across the street from which she was murdered witnessed her death. In fact, she was assaulted three times by the killer (he stabbed her and ran every time she called for help but returned when he found nobody came to rescue). Ask yourself, why the 38 people who witnessed the incident did no call the police early? Why they didn't do something about it?

Psychologists interpret this incident as an clear example for the bystander effect. Bystander effect is the likehood that an individual will intervene in an emergency goes down as the number of bystander increases. The people who were living in the apartments simply assumed that other people are calling for help, but they didn't now that THOSE other people are thinking the same way.

It is true; we tend not to help other people if we were in a crowded place because we assume that the help will be provided from other people than us. However, if we were in a place where they are less people around, the likehoood of us helping them increases. Psychologists concluded from different sets of experiments that bystanders provide help in an emergency situation 75% of the time when they are alone. However, 50% of the time when two bystanders are present and 30% of the time when they are more than 5 bystanders present. Judging from these figures, no wonder the 38 people who witnessed the incident of Kitty's murder did not do anything.

The next time when you need help or in an emergency situation say drowning in the sea, you better hope that there are less people on the beach or you will never receive help.

My Mother...My Queen

How I feel about my mother is deeper than words can say
I think of courage, beauty, faith, and the kindest person in every way

She helped me feel beautiful and talented when others said I was not
She carried many of my childhood heartaches so a lot of the pain I have now forgot

Unselfishly she concealed her own problems just to make us glad
Showering color into my life is what she does, especially on days that I am sad

My mother is truly a queen without the throne, but a throne I shall create
No enough words can define the way I feel, but words I shall illustrate

My idol, my queen, my hero, my friend, without you I shall not be lost
You are my soul, my air, my body, and my heart that always bound

May your days be filled with happiness not only on this Day
You are my mother, you are my queen...I wish you a happy Mother's Day

Love Triangle

Nope I’m not taking about threesomes or three people who share loves toward one another. I’m talking about the Triangular Theory of Love developed by Robert Sternberg. According to Stenberg, any love is born by unique combination of three major elements: Intimacy, Passion, and Commitment. Intimacy is that sense of closeness or connectedness you feel understood and cared for by another. Passion is the intense physical and sexual attraction you may feel for another. Commitment is a decision to love someone, and in the long term a deduction to maintain that love. With those three elements, different kind of loves are constructed as follow:

*Nonlove: Intimacy (-) Passion (-) Commitment (-)

*Liking: Intimacy (+) Passion (-) Commitment (-)

*Infuatuated Love: Intimacy (-) Passion (+) Commitment (-)

*Empty Love: Intimacy (-) Passion (-) Commitment (+)

*Romantic Love: Intimacy (+) Passion (+) Commitment (-)

*Companionate Love: Intimacy (+) Passion (-) Commitment (+)

*Fatuous Love: Intimacy (-) Passion (+) Commitment (+)

*Consummate Love: Intimacy (+) Passion (+) Commitment (+)

After 97 hours of playing...

I finally got to finish Tales of Legendia; an RPG game for the PS2 that released last February. Man, I never thought this game will take me that long to finish…but I’m glad it’s over. Although players reported that it only took them an average of 30~40 hours to finish it, but I ended having triple the amount of the reported game playtime. Well, I guess that’s because I’m a hardcore RPG gamer…I almost always have to finish an RPG game 100%. That is, All my characters have reached level 100, unlocked every secret, completed every side-quest and mini-games, and got all the weapons. Fortunately, for me, the game provides an item called “Collector’s Book” which is an item that displays all the items I have collected so far in the game. It took me a great amount of time to collect everything; although, the reward of doing that sucked. Maybe it’s a sickness that I have…I cannot force myself to complete an RPG game without finishing every single aspect the game offers.

Well, let me introduce the game for you a bit. What makes this game quite different than the rest of RPG games is the battle system. You see, most RPG games have the “turn-based” engine in which you wait for your turn in a battle and then assign orders to your characters. However, what makes Tales Series special is that they have a fighting game style but with RPG elements (i.e. Leveling up). For example, as soon the battle commences, you have the absolute control of your character (only one character while the rest are controlled by the computer’s A.I). That is, you can attack whatever you want and whenever you like. Although, the rest of the characters are controlled by the computer’s A.I, you can assign certain strategies for the rest of the party member to undertake such as “conserve TP (Technique Points)” or “Long-Range Magic” and such. Another favored aspect of most Tales games is the ability to use combos…it is such a thrill to see the combos rolling (it’s quite possible to rack up to 100 combos).

Tales of Legendia however didn’t live to its processor for me. I enjoyed Tales of Symphonia (NGC) more than I did with Legendia. Nevertheless, the game was quite entertaining. The game starts off easy (which is unusual since most Tales games start off hard); I had a rough time toward the end but I never got beaten. The amounts of side-quests are few and the rewards aren’t that satisfying. The Arena (which is a popular side-quest in most Tales series) is a joke in this game. The game does have its pros though and they are a lot. The graphics are nice but not mind-blowing and the music is quite remarkable. Anime-fans will appreciate the games’ artwork. However, one of the most stupid decisions that the Localization Team of the game made was to cut the voice acting in the 2nd half of the game that called “Character Quest” (It starts after you complete the first part of the game).

The story is cliché’ in some parts…the most original part of the game is that all the events in the game occur over a giant ship called “The Legacy”. Other than that, there aren't any elements of surprise ala Final Fantasy games, especially if you are a hardcore RPG player like me; although the characters development part of the story is quite good and enjoyable.

In the end, I recommend Tales of Legendia if you are a fan of most Tales games and a fan of RPG games. I finally got to cross off this game out of my gaming list and start with a new one. Bring on Kingdom Hearts II.

Unwritten

Call me old fashion but I recently discovered this song. I really liked the lyrics, I listen to this song every morning before I head to college. The song is so inspiring in that it kinda motivates me to do better in my life...STOP LAUGHING!

Song: Unwritten
Singer:Natasha Bedingfield

I am unwritten, can't read my mind, I'm undefined
I'm just beginning, the pen's in my hand, ending unplanned

**Chorus**

Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find

Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions

Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten

Oh, oh, oh

I break tradition, sometimes my tries, are outside the lines
We've been conditioned to not make mistakes, but I can't live
that way

**Repeat Chorus (x3)**

No Introduction...

I have no idea how would I introduce my blog or my first topic to you? I guess that's a common problem that I have...I always spend at least 1 hour on writing the introduction part of any term paper. Why do we have to introduce our thoughts, our writings, our presentation, and ourselves? Why cannot we jump to the main topic and get with it? Well, I guess that can possibly happens if we were in a life-threatening situation. I mean you certainly don’t have to introduce yourself when you have a criminal inside your house to a neighbor living next door.

Well, I better stop now before you lose your interest of my blog. Well, I guess I cannot help it if you are…I mean with a lousy introduction like that who wouldn’t. That’s the human nature for you…we have to greet and introduce every freaking thing just to get people’s approval and support. In this case, if I thought of a robbing a bank, I might as well introduce myself, and my situation to the banker just so he can understand why do I need the money.
