Love Triangle

Nope I’m not taking about threesomes or three people who share loves toward one another. I’m talking about the Triangular Theory of Love developed by Robert Sternberg. According to Stenberg, any love is born by unique combination of three major elements: Intimacy, Passion, and Commitment. Intimacy is that sense of closeness or connectedness you feel understood and cared for by another. Passion is the intense physical and sexual attraction you may feel for another. Commitment is a decision to love someone, and in the long term a deduction to maintain that love. With those three elements, different kind of loves are constructed as follow:

*Nonlove: Intimacy (-) Passion (-) Commitment (-)

*Liking: Intimacy (+) Passion (-) Commitment (-)

*Infuatuated Love: Intimacy (-) Passion (+) Commitment (-)

*Empty Love: Intimacy (-) Passion (-) Commitment (+)

*Romantic Love: Intimacy (+) Passion (+) Commitment (-)

*Companionate Love: Intimacy (+) Passion (-) Commitment (+)

*Fatuous Love: Intimacy (-) Passion (+) Commitment (+)

*Consummate Love: Intimacy (+) Passion (+) Commitment (+)
